Desperate need of Car insurance help

Options
Hey guys,

I've created an account here because I'm in dire need of assistance! My current insurance on my 1.0L Saxo is costing me £188 a month (and that was with a £500 deposit!) and I'm really struggling to afford it! At first it was fine, and I was dead excited to be driving, but now I'm growing up and gaining more and more financial responsibilities, it's becoming an unavoidable black hole in my wallet!

Does anyone have any advice regarding getting cheaper insurance for a young driver? I'm just 19, passed my test in August, and my car is an R-reg Saxo...

Please help!

TIA,
Alex

Sadly no =/ thats the joys of being a young driver!

You could try moving to those insurers that fit a box in your car to monitor your driving, they cut premiums, ones to memory are More Than, Insure the box and i-Kube i think!?

Add a parent (experienced driver) as a named driver on your policy, restrict your annual mileage, increase your excess on the policy, remove all policy add ons such as legal cover and hire car (assuming you can manage without these).

Adding an experienced driver doesn't always bring the premium down, adding my dad on puts the premium up and also restricting your mileage is sometimes as bad as having a high annual mileage because the insurer assume that you're getting less experience in the car and may have an accident. Worth a try though this is only from my experience.

the only way i know is get one of you parents to insure it in there name and have you as a named driver. this used to work years ago but not sure id it is cheaper now but should be :D
  • Alex, it should get easier if you can get through the first year claim and accident free. At that point you'll have 1 years NCD which equates to 30% discount; more importantly you'll have a few more insurers to choose from as you'll be sen as having some experience. In the meantime you could try Coverbox, Selecter and A Plan.

In the majority of new young drivers, adding an experienced parent/older person on will reduce premium. Perhaps you are older, depending on parents driving experience too.

The bit where you say about less mileage.....you are making an assumption, this is not fact. Reducing from 10k per annum to 5k will reduce the premium, that is a fact. The more that a person drives, accident percentage will increased.
