Hi I need to buy new tyres for my car and I wonder if anyone can help me with tyre sizes please (typical woman lol). I've had a look in the hand book for my car and it has two sizes: it says -
Standard- 195/60 R14
Option - 205/50 R15
I have checked the tyres already on the car and they are the 205/50 R15 ones. I've had a look online and the 'Option' ones are far more expensive than the 'Standard' ones. Am i right in thinking I can buy both tyre sizes? And what's the difference between the two? Its a P reg Hyundai coupe if that helps.
Many thanks for any replies.

No, I am afraid not. The hole in the middle of the cheaper 14" tyres is 1" too small to fit on the 15" diameter wheels you currently have fitted to your car.0

Standard would probably be steel wheels or basic models with smaller brakes. Option could be alloy wheels
or a model that has larger brakes and needs a larger diameter wheel to cover them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

The first number, 205 in your case, is the width of the tyre in mm.
The second number (called the aspect ratio), 50 in your case, is the height of the sidewall of the tyre expressed as a percentage of the width. So in your case the tyre is 205 mm wide and 102.5 mm sidewall height (50%).
The third number, 15 for you, is the diameter of the wheel in inches.
So your wheels are an inch too big to fit the standard tyre. Sorry.0 -
Ok everybody thanks for your help!0

Just had 2 new uns fitted to my Honda and it was 40 quid cheaper than going straight to National Tyre (exact same service and fitting station)

I often find Camskill cheaper than either - www.camskill.co.uk Fitting from a local garage at around £10 per corner.
No connection - just a satisfied customer.0 -
