Car Insurance Direct Debit

Today my car insurance direct debit was due, but there weren't enough funds in the account until my salary hit the account, which was around early afternoon.

My direct debit hasn't yet left the account. Will it have bounced and I therefore get hit with a charge? And if so would the insurer (admiral) automatically retry in a few days.

Thanks.

Check with your bank to see if they bounced it. Admiral may try again in about a weeks time, but also check with them after speaking to your bank. You need to make sure Admiral are aware. Some companies appear to cancel Insurance in these situations, without much warning.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

I used to work for Admiral. You'll probably get a letter in the next few days saying the payment bounced and we will try again in a week HOWEVER... do not chance it, RING them and check your policy is still active! Do not leave it to chance.

Their opening hours for customer services are

  • I spoke to bank last night and they confirmed it was scheduled to debit account today. Check this morning and it went out and didn't bounce afterall.
