Advice/experience wanted on car sharing

I have been thinking recently about car sharing and offering someone a lift to work via one of the sites that organize this. I drive about 4/5 miles to work three days a week and would seem a decent thing to do and also share the petrol cost with a fellow commuter. One thing that worries me is how much to ask for petrol contributions and what happens if you dont get on with that person!

Any one who has an experience of car sharing or suggestions please help!

4 or 5 miles and only 3 days, I presume the chance of finding someone will be low anyway. And the cost barely worth
the effort. Might get someone that eats a lot of onions and beans.

Fuel only costs you about £5/6 anyway. 5 miles x 6 journeys = 30 miles, Car does 30+ mpg?

Lol!_pale_ that is really my main concern!

I normally spend about 20 per week on fuel which apart from commuting to work covers the odd shopping trip. I dont drive huge distances at present. I have a bmw 3 series.

A certain site comes up with matches to your journey and as I work near a college there are a couple of people there who go the same way. The bus fare one way is £2.20 to work so would £5 per three trips be an unreasonable amount?

    :)

If you do find someone who matches your travel direction and times then £5 would seem reasonable. Will most students
get a travel pass? I see the 3 days being the main issue.
