Carers Allowance Rates.

Can anyone help.

Both OH and I have been getting CA. One stopped temporarily whilst DLA was reassessed. It will restart in January.

We have noticed though the two amounts were different. At first we thought it was because one also included the extra for a dependant adult but that doesn't work out.

Does anyone else get more that the normal £53.90 per week and if so, do you know what the extra money is for?

Comments

  • Could it be a Carers Premium or a disability premium included in another benefit rather than CA? Ho wmuch is the extra?
  • OH gets the premiums on Income Support so don't think that is it.

The extra amount is about £8, if he gets the bit for an adult dependant.

There was extra premiums added onto your CA some time ago, so any newish claims wont have this addition. I can't remember exactly when it stopped but will have a look around.

A first child addition is about £8.10 weekly.

Invalid care allowance until 1 April 2003

    Dependency increases

Extra Carer’s Allowance is paid for an adult who lives with the claimant. The adult must either be the claimant's husband, wife or civil partner, or a person who looks after the claimant's children.

Extra Carer’s Allowance is paid for each child dependent.

Adult dependency increases are taxable. Child dependency increases are not taxable.

  • Thanks. In that case we have been underpaid since we have 4 children. Or do they just pay for one child only?

Are all 4 children disabled then?
ETA: are you claiming CA for the children?

Okay so from having a quick look at your other posts it appears you have 2 disabled children and I assume you claim CA for one child and your husband claims CA for the other child. The first award of CA has a child addition which was payable some years ago but this addition ended and new claimants of CA are not entitled to this.

So you get CA £53.90 + the child addition for one child and the second child only gets the standard rate of CA £53.90.

You are not entitled to any premiums for the other children.

  • Ok thanks.

Yep, we both get CA. One amount is £53.90 and it is the other one that has stopped whilst the sort stuff out. Guess we will be going down to £53.90 on both then. Mind you it comes off Income Support so I'm guessing that we will be getting pretty much the same at the end of the day.
