'Won't work' does not give a lot to go on.
What fault code does the manual say this indicates? No free lunch, and no free laptop

the manual just says that if the on-off/ door locked led flashes rapidly at the same time as at least one other led then there is a error0

Not very helpful at all. Ariston help line? Or otherwise you need a white goods engineer.
Have you checked the basics, i.e. water supply OK, inlet filter clean, drain hose not blocked or kinked, pump not blocked (check that the impeller will turn freely).
Does the drum move if you turn it by hand?
When you say it 'won't work', will it not drain, not fill, not run any cycle? No free lunch, and no free laptop

thank you both for replies
yes i have checked the basic's and when i say it won;t work it will not run a cycle
i have not phoned ariston yet it has only gone on the blink today
i just thought i would ask about to get a idea of the problem
and i have also unplugged it and left it 10 mins before plugging in again
the buttons seem to flash 16 times then pause then start flashing again0 -
Is this the fault code?

If so, clear the pump impeller as described (you'll lose a little bit of water so have a bucket and mop handy).
Edit: these are the actual fault codes, tell us which one it is.

Why can't they just print those in the manual? No free lunch, and no free laptop

washing machine is in the middle of the kitchen will post the outcome0

well still no joy, thanks for the links i have looked at them
from top to bottom the function buttons flashing are the 1st and 4th
so i'm thinking looking at your link it might be
f09 lights 1&4 eprom/setup error
i will ask about on that forum0 -
Your original post says 2 lights either side of one button, which indicates possibly fault code 05?
I suggest you check the pump impeller anyway, it's by far the most common user-related fault (i.e not emptying pockets etc).No free lunch, and no free laptop

we did check the pumps and it still had the same error i made a post on the forum off the links you left and it was suggested it's a likely to be a well known fault with a c 17 cap on the pcb
so going to look at this as it won't cost much to fix0 -
well i followed the advice from the other forum and we replaced the
c 17 cap on the pcb and all is well for the total cost of 42p and a hour of the hubby's time0
