You can use this to expand your website. When you upload media files you can make an album which you have a choice to either keep private or invite visitors. You choose to make the album as an "invite" album and then choose to invite somebody. When you choose to invite it asks for the email address of the person whom you wish to invite. You use your own email address in and shortly later you will receive an email with a link to the album. You can incorporate the link address in your own website and all your own website visitors can view any albums you have made in the BT vault. I hope this makes sense.
It certainly works for me and saves me a lot of bandwidth (Using BT's)
BUT DO NOT UPLOAD ANY ADULT MATERIAL. Movies and Pics are checked and removed within a few days (So I am told!).

Do you have to have AOL?

No, anyone can use it - just register an AOL username for free
  • With regard to the freebie AOL product - I've been there before !! Last time I arrived on that pages 'cos I wanted to use the free AOL radio and got directed to the section "Get Free Screename". It unfortuantely complained and moaned, even though I used a complex password with Upper, Lowercase and numbers. In the end, it just gave up and told me to go away. I guess, it realised I wasn't in the USA !! But for you guys with an existing AOL account, youy're probably ok.

As for the BT product, I bumped into it this morning, and have signed up without any problems, and have now lodged a few files in the vault.

You can create an AOL screen name on the UK site here ...
    http://www.aol.co.uk/aim/create/

You can then use that screen name for XDrive

Ahhh! This was what I was after. Thanks and thanks to BT for donating 2GB (or more I guess if you open more than one free account) of storage for my website!
  • Why not use GoogleMail/GMail with GMail Drive (3rd Party shell file) and have over 2.7GB storage for free and its still going up. And Google will never release any of you information.
  • the BT Digital Vault is the best way of freeing up space on your hard drive or digital camera memory stick (especially when travelling)

Theres a lot of these services popping up online, that offer anything upto 5Gig. I can predict a future where disk storage will be big business, anything from personal documents to treasured photo's will be secured and stored away in a digital format.
