May be a dupe, cheapish dells, good specs

Hi peeps,

May be of interest to some people, rather good offer from Dell for £244 ex vAT and delivery (£49 for everything). I think they screwed up a little, because you can knock the service down to 90 day CAR and get a good machine for a goodish price, esp if your a business (no vat for you )

If it tells you your config choice is invalid, ignore it

http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/to...1&l=en&s=bsd

Select the 3100 not the 3100c, and add the pentium4 option for £15 !!!!!

knock down support to CAR

Now if you want, also increase the 15" tft to a 19tft for only £40

  • Do you think this would be adequate for a year 10 pupil?

In my opinion, and it is only that, as a network administrator, its MORE than sufficient, hell, my main workhorse machine is the same spec give or take and it rocks. Its a good buy :)

It should last a good long while !

The computer looks really cheap £164 with the pentium 4 added at £15. however the £50 delivery does put me off a bit. Also I have wireless broadband in my house so what modem option do I need to choose to be able to connect automatically without having to buy additional hardware.

It looks like you're going for the 3100c rather than the 3100. If you're happy to buy the system at that price and won't be considering upgrading it yourself in the future that's fine, but the compact case may be a problem if you want to upgrade. Worth pointing out I think.

The modem option is only for dial-up connections. You'd probably be better off buying your own wireless card whether it be PCI (internal, you'd have to open the case) or external USB dongle.
