Proxy nightmare on different networks

Hi,

I tried looking through the FAQ thread, but couldn't find any problem like mine so I hope some one will help me, please.

I use my Mum's laptop to wirelessly connect to the internet at home. She also uses it to connect wirelessly at work. The trouble is that my Mum's work network needs to have the proxy box ticked (Internet options>connections>LAN settings>tick 'use proxy server') but when I am at home this box being ticked stops me being able to connect to the internet. At the moment, I just untick the box whenever I use my home network, then (hopefully!) remember to tick it again for when my Mum takes it back to work.

To be honest this is a complete hassle and I was wondering if there was a way to get the laptop to either choose to use the proxy setting or not depending on which network it is connected to?

I have Windows XP professional a Linksys WAG354G modem/router.

THanks in advance,

Joe

You could save this to proxyoff.vbs and run it..

    Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    Dim WSHShell
    WshShell.RegWrite "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyEnable",0, "REG_DWORD"
    WSHShell.Run "iexplore http:\\www.google.com\", 3, true
msgbox("Click OK To Turn Proxy Back On")
    WshShell.RegWrite "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyEnable",1, "REG_DWORD"

(FIX the 2 references to In ternet, that should just be Internet, MSE is adding a space.. first).
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • THanks, this is totally cool of you, albertross! I think I got it to work with Firefox - though my computer my start smoking any minute, lol.

I'm the classic example of 'a little knowledge is a dangerous thing'. I know enough to get me into trouble but rarely enough to get me out of it!
