Not at aldi there arent. What a cheek using a butcher when your grocers doesnt have what you want. How would he make a living if people just used him occassionally.
Well if my butcher's prices were more competitive and the quality of his product was a lot better than Aldi then I would use him more. Like I said in my first post there are a lot of misguided food snobs on here who don't believe the the quality of meat from Aldi is any good.
It is as good as in many cases as anything from a butcher (as many food awards/taste tests show)
This is a money saving site, I am certainly not going to throw money away to support my butcher just because I feel sorry for him. I donate to charity every month, no need to have to support my butcher too0 -

I never said i used a butcher, i won't pay the prices that they charge! If he lowered his prices like the blokes in the markets he would make a living.0 -

I am not a misguided food snob at all but i believe that aldi is a grocers shop and not a butchers shop. A butcher does butchering he can do so much more than a grocers shop. He can give help and advice etc. Try asking the till person at the grocers what they know about meat? Ask them how long their meat has been hanging etc? They wont know? They arent trained in butchering thats my point not whether or not the meat is good.:footie:0 -

Perhaps moreoverheads than the blokes in the markets as you put it? Are the blokes in the markets proper butchers? Can they answer any questions you may have about your meat? Are they trained butchers and whats the quality like? you have to make sure you are comparing like for like ifysim?(sp in the first line):footie:0 -
are the geese from Aldi/Lidl free range?0

If you want decently priced meat - and someone who knows how to butcher / prepare your meat properly then find your local slaughterhouse and buy direct. That's what we do. It's as cheap if not cheaper than the supermarkets...and you know it's local so fewer food miles.
Nevertheless, I do buy bacon from our local butcher (who, incidentally, has his own slaughterhouse) because it is massively better than supermarket stuff.0
