Aldi Goose

Hi there. Thinking of cooking goose for Christmas dinner and have seen that Aldi are getting some in for £12.99 (available on Thursday)

Has anyone ever bought goose from Aldi? Was it any good? I often buy meat from Aldi and it is usually excellent quality (despite what some of the misguided food snobs on here think )

We get a cheap goose from there, its nice had one for a few years now along with a turkey. No different to a £60.00 0ne.!!

I go to a butcher too, but only for things I can't get at Aldi

And having the choice of paying £50-£60 for a goose at my butchers or £13 in Aldi - I know which one I will be buying.

Subject to it being any good of course

Lidl do a nice one for £19.99, we've had that one as well.

We bought one a few years ago from a local farm shop for £48 - I feel faint at that these days. We also bought one last year from Aldi and it was just as nice to be honest. I'm thinking about getting one this year too.

Oooh that sounds good! A friend of mine cooked goose a couple of years ago and it cost £70 with just enough to feed 6 at the main meal! It was a bit expensive for me but I'd love to do it instead of turkey so might have to make a trip to Aldi - thanks for the tip!

thats awful fancy admitting that you put a supermarket before a skilled butcher who knows his job and is important in your community.

There are skilled butchers at supermarkets as well, why would i want to spend £50.00 more on a goose just so a butcher can stay in a job? Nah. They taste the same(geese not butchers)!

Not at aldi there arent. What a cheek using a butcher when your grocers doesnt have what you want. How would he make a living if people just used him occassionally.

My mum's bought an aldi one for the last 3/4 years (and I'm sure she will have again this year)- there's only 5 of us to feed so it's nice to have a smaller bird and we don't end up with leftovers for days afterwards (although i do love a turkey curry). In terms of flavour/ quality they've always been great and I think they're really good value for money.
