what to do?

ok im probably going to be told the obvious after posting this and believe me i know i made a mistake simply by trying to help someone and i wont do it again so save your time and mine by not having a go :) anyway this is my story.

i have something which i make and sell on ebay all the time and i sell lots of these items. one night i got a message through ebay saying that this person had tried bidding on my items but kept forgetting about them finishing and therefore not winning so could i sell her one and she could pay me through paypal. ok i said just send payment of £xxx and i will post to you tomorrow. this was done and i thought nothing more of it until she sent me an email saying she hadnt received parcel. i asked her to wait the 21 days royal mail say to and then i could report the item as missing. did this and sent it off after the time had elasped. during this time she was asking me for refund etc but i told her as she had opted not to take insurance/recorded delivery i would refund when i was refunded. anyway my neighbour turned up with this parcel last week, it had been returned as not called for. i sent it back at my expense £5 and now she is saying she hasnt received it again. i have told her to go to local sorting office to see if its there. is she pulling a fast one. i feel like telling her to get stuffed. she has been awkward with me all the way through and all i have done is try to help her. its doing my head in.

i dont know what else to do. i have done everything i can as far as i can see.

regards
carol

Unfortunately it is your responsibility to see the buyer gets what they paid for. If the buyer is still in time she can do a paypal chargeback and you will lose.

It really is best to refund the buyer, usually week 2 if you can stall them that long, and then reclaim your losses from the RM.

Any insurance you offer is to protect you, not the buyer, so if you want the parcel insured , then insure it. As a buyre I would never take optional insurance on an item as I pay by paypal and would be covered against non receipt anyway.

ive done what i can to make sure the buyer receives it though. i have posted the damn thing twice now what more can i do other than deliver it myself, i would if it was close enough. why should i lose out because she didnt collect it the first time, ive already paid for the postage again. it seems so unfair if what you say is her legal right.

as for claiming it back from royal mail well i received a letter from them this morning (its took them that long) saying that as i didnt send them a certificate of postage i cant claim which in this instance doesnt matter now anyway as it turned up although it may have gone again :( but i did send it to them, i sent the original and i have the copy as stated on the claim form. or is a certificate of postage different to a proof of postage receipt.

Certificate of Posting & Proof of posting receipt. One can be on RMs card the other is a printed receipt for the postage paid with the recipient written on it. Either will support a claim.

Royal Mail frequently claim non receipt of associated documents I send with my claims even though I staple them together! All you can do is send the copy with a note saying its a copy because they lost the original.

The buyer will not get an automatic refund from paypal through a chargeback, this is because it seems to be an off ebay sale, they will record it on their records but that is as far as it goes

It may be different though if they make a chargeback via a credit card

It doesn't matter whether the item was an ebay item or not, the paypal rules still apply and buyers are entitled to a refund if they chargeback for non receipt.

well the story goes on and gets better. im soooooo annoyed.

i have had an email back from the stupid woman and she is telling me i posted it to the wrong address because she didnt change her address on paypal. no apology for all the trouble and worry she has caused me, no apology for the way she made me feel like i was scamming her. no apology for me being out of pocket by paying for postage again to an address she isnt even at. she is going to see the sorting office and try to get it, to be honest i dont care is she doesnt and they send it back. i wont be posting it again. what a total idiot she is. i could happily bash the damn item over her head :)

thanks for all your help and advice.
    regards
