    Hi folks

it's pay day so time to join the March challenge.

Got a little too ambitious last month & set myself a unrealistic figure so am basing this months on what I actually spent last month.

Bill for Feb was £218.02(which works out at about £54.00 a week) so will try to only spend £50.00 a week this month.

Will try the seperate purse idea too as i am also do the Care for the Family "Cash for a month" challenge which as it sounds means that i will not be using any plastic(not even debit cards). The organisation is concerned about how much debt the UK population has so have devised this so that people will realise that "real money" can run out before the end of the week/month.

Will keep you updated to progress

Good luck to everyone and happy budgeting!!

  • Thanks elona :)

I've just checked out the slow cooker and it looks great so I'm definitely considering it. Found it a tad cheaper at Amazon - £24.51 with free delivery - unless anyone knows of any Tesco Electricals vouchers I could use to knock a bit off their price ;)

I bought mine in Superdrug for £15.00 I am not sure of they still do the one I bought but a couple of weeks ago they were still selling chrome ones for £14.99 - you never know you might be lucky.

it's pay day today so the march challenge starts today. I've just done my iceland and tesco shops online and saved £20 by using the codes, not to mention all the multibuys and bogofs!

my february grocery spend for 2 adults, 3 children, 3 cats, hamster, fish but not including the chickens! was £148.81, which is about £37.20 a week. i have to say that it looks really good when you see it written down. march will probably be a bit more because of the iceland shop that i do every 2-3 months, but i'm still hoping to stay under £160 for the month.
busy following all the advice and tips:)

No, you're not a pest at all ... we're all here to help each other save money where we can, and having taken advantage of others' help here I'm only too happy to pass that on :)

All my savings with Boots were done using their BOGOF and 3 for 2 offers in conjunction with the voucher codes (found here ) usually giving £5 off. For example on one particular order, I noticed they had my fav shower gel (Imperial Leather Ice) on BOGOF so I ordered 4 plus a shower gel for the boys ... because 2 of the gels were free from the offer the total came to £3.95 (instead of £6.71) and I used a voucher worth £3 off so I paid 95p in total for 5 shower gels :D

Other offers I took advantage of were dental products (3 for 2) and medicines (flu/cold remedies were all reduced) using the same principal above. Their offers change from month to month so it's worth keeping an eye on any products you buy regularly and stock up while they're on offer ;)

Thanks Curry Queen for all the advice,To be honest ive never used Excel
( told you i was a computer idiot) but i did follow your table of expenditure,,,,and it will help me A LOT , as ill do it that way too. and i enjoyed reading how you had got on for the month , Its nice to see how others are coping :)
What things do you consider "Household" . I hadnt thought about breaking it down like that ,and at the moment , just had lists of food,, general stuff..that wasnt food .....and one off purchases, like birthday presents etc,
So i think if i do it your way ,ill have a better idea.
Sorry to hear you havent been well ,its hard to think straight when youre feeling grotty, but the big batch of cooking im sure would work well for you , so you have meals on hand to use , on the days you dont feel good

    Thanks again
    Love
