I use Tesco's own washing powder for clothes, works fine and even works well on whites something that Tescos Value powder didnt do. My kids always have stains on their white polo shirts and so far Tescos powder has shifted it. :)

I have also tried as suggested own brand nappies which so far I'm quite please with, I used Asda george nappies and sainsbury own washing tablets which work fine on freshing up but not so well on stains (and I get quite a few of them from the baby). I'm going to try switching a few more things to own brands. Any suggestions on the best one to try?.

Thanks again for all the advise :T

To get rid of stains try adding a couple of tablespoons of washing soda to your wash and you'll be amazed! My son's football kit always looked grubby on the white bits from all the mud until I started doing this (a tip I find on this site) and now it comes up sparkly white :j

Can I ask about nappies..... my first child was born 11 years ago... to try and cut costs I tried soooo many own brands that I ended up throwing them away as they constantly leaked and baby's bottom was sodden I ended up using pampers which were a revelation....
my 2nd had pampers too ( he's 10) my third is due in 12 days and i'm very reluctant to try any others bar pampers... have own brands really come along since then?????

My kids are age 7 and 4 and out of nappies now, when I started buying I always used Pampers or Huggies but then switched to boots own make as I heard they were huggies anyway. Boots ones quite often are on a 3 for 2 offer which makes them even cheaper. The only think you can do is experiment, unless you try the reusuable ones but I have no clue about those!

    Hi Julie

I also only used pampers on my 5 yr old son, and up to a week ago used them on my 11 month old daughter, but this passed week I have used Asda Georges nappies and so far I am pleased with them, they've not leaked and they fit well. I don't think I'd buy the real budget nappies but I think the brand ones are worth a try.

  • hi julie,
for me number two is due in 3 weeks.my fist daughter is 2 years and 2 months and still in nappies.
i was always the same until recently and would only use pampers or huggies but decided to try a few brands and am very impressed by both morrisons(or safeway!)'s own and boots own they perform best at night too i find and my daughter sleeps without waking for 12-15 hours overnight so they get a good testing!!!......i actually had more leaks with pampers than anything else!!! have a packet of george from asda stashed away to try on new bubs too.........daughter is currently in morrisons own!!

my youngest is 8 weeks old, i've got three in nappies at the moment and the littlest is in disposies at the mo while i choose his cloth nappies, i can't wait to swop, they are a nightmare! i've used, pampers newborn, pampers baby dry, huggies, tescos own and boots own on him so far and they all leak!

never had a leak in cloth! i'd always say give it a go, if you don't like them you can sell them but if you buy decent ones you will more than likely love them to bits (never heard of a disposible nappy addict but i know many cloth ones, lol!)

having said that i buy own brand wipes, tescos and boots cloth ones are both good xxx
