alternatively unplug your keyboard and plug it into a different USB socket its not been in before.
Give the caps lock key and a few others a good jab/shake the thing a little to make sure its nothing mechanically is up.
Finally go buy a new keyboard, cost from £2 upwards depending on the quality you want.0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for your advice and pIisSs taking. I have bought a cheap keyboard and it works.
Can I assume that there are seriousish problems with my laptop keyboard for it to be doing that and that I should take it back to the shop where I got it about 3 months ago (I suppose its under warranty).

Yup, couple of options
-Should be under warranty so back to the shop is potentially the safest.... just please please PLEASE make sure you've backed up and taken a copy of all data you had on the laptop as chances are it'll go missing/become otherwise problematic (eg if they send it off somewhere then decide to just offer you a new machine).
-Alternatively for a self repair you could try 'fiddling' with the latop (i'f be tempted to 'carefully' pop the caps lock key off and have a fiddle but you can damage it if you get this wrong then the shop won't want to know.
You could also try removing and reseating the keyboard internal ribbon, or buying a whole new keyboard on ebay and fitting that.
Google youir laptop make and model with the words 'service manual' for instructions on removing the keyboard0 -
Yes, of course you should-even DSG/PCW give 12m warranties these days.
But if you do, prepare for them to tell you that to fix they need to a) replace the motherboard and b) reinstall your OS. So please ensure that you have all your data backed up before you let them get their hands on it.
Alternatively, have you tried doing a System Restore back to a date prior to when the problem occurred? Though if it's a hardware fault, this won't fix it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the tip on backing it up, think its best I take it back to the shop after breaking my desktop through fiddling myself. Thought about doing system restore, will give it a quick go after I've copied data.

Ah I see you managed to take your gloves off!
So let's get the real problem - your CAPS LOCK light is flashing, so there's something wrong with your caps lock key activating and deactiviating on its own. Is there something lodged underneath it holding it down or anything? With most keyboards it's possible to gently prise the keys off (be careful, I take no responsibility etc!) and give it a good clean around. If this doesn't work, I'd be checking the connection between the keyboard and the mainboard, maybe it wasn't secure.
Should be an easy job for a high street computer shop to repair or diagnose, and depending on your laptop, hopefully the keyboard is easily replaced.
After having a fiddle with it yourself though, you should be taking it back to the retailer if it's only 3 months old...0
