Key account - do they upgrade eventually?

Hi

Now that I've managed to open a Key account with RBS does anyone know if they upgrade after you have demonstrated running your account appropriately - I know it won't be for a while. Or do they run another credit check which I don't really want?

Also I got turned down by Yorkshire Bank for their Readycash - supposedly the easiest one to get?

I have moved house recently but showed them a council tax bill to prove I was the homeowner and gave my previous address which has one default from 2008 on it and nothing else, no bankruptcy, IVA or CCJs - any ideas what it could be as I'm not happy really

I don't believe they upgrade automatically, you need to apply. There are some RBS staff members on here that will be able to give a more definitive answer.

Unfortunately not, no.

I've had one of those accounts for years now and it's only in the last two years or so that they've started to pester me about opening a "better" account. They have stated repeatedly that they cannot upgrade the Key Account but to be honest with you it's a good enough account anyway and I feel that RBS are charging too much for their Royalties and Royalties Gold account in particular anyway. Do you know if the visa debit card is a basic one and whether it allows use at petrol stations - I travel a lot in my job and don't want something where I'll be stuck

I think its a full Auth visa Debit - my friend has this account and mentioned that his card didnt work at the self service pumps @ the pertol station

Any idea if there's any intention of getting rid of this stupid anomaly any time soon - or is it quicker to get another account and hope I never run out of petrol where there's only a supermarket nearby?!

It just means the card cannot be used at the automated payment pumps Tigerlily, you can use the card in any supermarket's petrol station by just going to the kiosk instead LOL

Just that our local Asda petrol station is unmanned...just the pay at pump

The account itself cannot be upgraded (ie keep the same account number) but in many cases after a few months there's every chance a full current account would be offered if you applied. A credit check will be done but barring bankruptcy/IVA it won't necessarily stop it approving.

Thanks chambta, its the full credit check again that I don't really want - is some element of the process related to how you conduct the account?
