Please could someone help an aged widow with very little techie knowledge. I have changed my Sony Bravia KDL22S5500 tv to a Sony Bravia KDL32BX300 tv. The 22" was connected to a Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-EZ48VEB (DVD/VCR). I have managed to tune in the tv according to the instructions on the screen and the tv is working perfectly. However, I am having difficulty getting the Panasonic to work. When I connected up the new tv I only removed the 3 cables that were in the back of the 22" - the mains lead, the aerial and the HDMI cable and inserted them all into the back of the 32". I didn't touch them at the back of the Panasonic. When I try to play a DVD the display on the Panasonic starts ticking away the seconds indicating, I assume, that it is playing but nothing appears on the screen. With the 22" I had to go to External Outputs HDMI 1 but when I do this with the new set it just says No signal. Obviously there is something else I have to do. If you are kind enough to be able to help me, please could you be very specific as I am pretty useless at this sort of thing. Am reluctant to call anyone in having managed to connect up the tv and tune it in on my own. There's just this one hurdle to overcome. Thank you so much.

Is there more than one HDMI input on the TV? Do you maybe have it plugged into HDMI 2 and you're selecting HDMI 1?
Also, unplug the lead from the TV and plug it back in again to make sure it's plugged in.
Edit: Sony's site tells me it has two HDMIs, and that the HDMI has 'PC Signal Capability' - maybe there's some menu option to switch the HDMI between PC or DVD? Where's the instruction manual?0 -
Thank you googler. There are 3 HDMI inputs on the back of the set (1, 3 and 4). I have it plugged into 1. Tonight I will try unplugging and reinserting (off to the hospital now). There's only a small paper manual with one page devoted to connecting a recorder which only shows you what leads to put where. On the remote for the tv there is a button i-manual but having got to it I can't see any option that answers my problem. Thank you again.0

You'll need to select the correct source on the TV remote-there should be a button with something like 'AV Source' on it. Press that and then select the correct input, i.e. HDMI 1. If that doesn't work, it could be a faulty HDMI socket, so try the others, changing the input as necessary. If still no joy then I would suspect a damaged HDMI cable or connector (They are quite flimsy and you may have damaged it when swapping it over). Swap it for another one if you have a spare, or borrow one to test it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I think the OP's done that - "With the 22" I had to go to External Outputs HDMI 1 but when I do this with the new set it just says No signal."0 -
Possibly, but surely it would be 'Inputs'? Clarification needed, would help if someone is familiar with the menu options on that Sony.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thank you to macman and especially to googler. Problem solved. I did as you suggested and removed the lead from the tv and plugged it back in again and this time it is working fine. Obviously I needed to use a bit more wellie. I haven't tried to record yet as I will need to alter the clock on the Panasonic first but one thing at a time and I'll save that pleasure for later! Thank you so much for your advice. I am so grateful for your help.0
