I drove one of these a few weeks ago, the electronic switch thing was a complete pain and I hated it.

It would certainly put me off buying one if I ever had the money LOL

  • Can you still do a handbrake turn using the electronic system? :)
  • i drove an astra with one a few months back, tbh i never use the handbrake unless i am parked - and never parked on a hill so it wasnt an issue

The first car I drove with an electric parking brake was a Land Rover. To start with, I was never convinced the thing was actually on when I left the car. It's not a problem once you get used to it.

Thanks for all your help - I'm getting better with the timing of it and so I'm causing less of a conniption at traffic lights.

I braved out the bonging and yes it does eventually release the brake, but I'll save that for when no-one else is in the car with me as I feel like a proper idiot when I do it.

I'm also surprised by how poor the car is in the snow, a small dusting and it nearly failed to get up the small incline outside my house. Haven't had anything that bad since my Celica :rotfl:

How does this system cope with a hill start in reverse?

Unfortunately not - I still like the electronic system on my A4 though.

Apparently if you pull the switch while travelling at speed the car will automatically execute an emergency stop. I havent tried that one yet though.

:D No idea, I know that I would never buy a car with anything other than a standard handbrake fitted.
