Hi everyone
I'm buying a new mobile phone the end of the month, the one i have currently is in fine working order at the moment although it is prone to switching itself off automatically (although this hasn't happened since i bought a new charger).
What i'm trying to state is, would it be okay to sell it on ebay at a low starting price if i give a clear description of the "maybe" fault in the listing?

Yes.
So long as it is clear that the fault may be present you're OK.0 -

you can put it is "FAULTY" in 2 foot banners with flashing lights and a loud speaker saying "IT IS FAULTY", and you will still have it sent back because the person didnt realise it is faulty.0

Maybe so... although i shall state that it is non-returnable so they should read the description carefully.0 -
it's not a siemens phone by any chance is it? I've had 2 siemens mobiles which both ended up doing that.
I checked on ebay and other people had the same problem. So I just listed it like they had - mentioned the fact that it can switch itself off unexpectedly. There was still loads of bids and I got a good price for it. Though I did allow the option of returning it within 7 days but the buyer was happy enough knowing what he was getting.0 -
Thanks for the reply miss_lisalou, no it isn't a Siemens it's a Nokia 6111.
I've just brought a new Sony Ericson so shall be listing the Nokia in the next couple of days.
Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated.0 -
I would certainly put in the item description that it is faulty and what the fault is. A year or 2 ago I sold an old phone that was faulty and I was surprised how much it actually went for!Weight Loss - 102lb0

That is likely to put a lot of people off - would YOU want to buy it in that case?
I guess it depends on your feedback. If you only have a low feedback, the customer has no idea how trustworthy you are. What you describe in the ad as occassional, could be every 5 mins in reality. With no returns, the customer has no protection at all, and that's not fair.
If you have a big feedback, then customers are more likely to take the risk because they can see you're legit.
Depending on your personal feelings about feedback, it might also be relevant that a customer who has a problem that is solved politely and effectively (ie they get what they want!) is much less likely to leave a negative.Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.0 -
I understand what you're saying Benji, although i feel that i'm a trustworthy seller therefore i shall list the description within all honesty, thanks for your input.
I've been watching a similar item, although this one doesn't work at all, the item went for £50... i shall list in the next couple of days.0
