Reserve fees-Ask nicely+get back...or not?

Hi,
My friend has had over £120 reserve fees on his Barclays account in 2009, a 'Paid referral fee' of £30 in 2008 and various 'Account Fees' in 2008 and beyond.
Now i have read many times on Martin's newsletters and on this brilliant forum that although bank charges aren't claimable, if you ask nicely and you are, on the whole, a good customer, you can sometimes get them back. Now my friend has had two or three loans from Barclays in the past (big ones of around £5000 or £6000) but has more or less kept his account in order (apart from the few mistakes in 2009) so i was wondering if anyone else has had any luck in getting Reserve Fees refunded in the past?
Ps- The 'Paid referral fee' was for a loan i believe, has anyone got these refunded too please?
Thank you in advance!!

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/bank-chargesIf you’re reading this after a one-off recent bank charge, just call up the bank and see if it’ll wipe it.Hi,
My friend has had over £120 reserve fees on his Barclays account in 2009, a 'Paid referral fee' of £30 in 2008 and various 'Account Fees' in 2008 and beyond....
... has more or less kept his account in order (apart from the few mistakes in 2009) ...
It doesn't sound like it was a "one-off" occurrence, but there's no harm in asking. The worst they can do is say no

You need to do it by telephone. Doing it by post is seen as not tackling it head on and you will not get a refund. Whilst it may be harder to ask on the phone, its also harder for them to say no. 0845 7555 5550 -
Reserve fee is a limit set by them that they agree when you use it there will be a charge of £22 for a week until it is paid off....I would recommend you don't waste your time - I have wrote a letter for something that was what I seen their fault (by the by)...but they didn't see it that way and the reserve fee had to be paid. I had the conversation about it and a letter and they still didn't let up and now to be fair I see their point on the usage of it...its not a free service and their terms state this when you first get it...you can accept it or ask them to remove the service but then if you do go overdrawn the charge is more than the reserve fee.....clever huh?!0

Ha ha, i see your point and i kind of agree but the point remains that people on here have actually got some/all of them back as 'gestures of goodwill' you see! Got to be worth a shot? Not yet a total moneysaving expert...but im trying!!0

Hi, Dont know if you managed to get the address but here it is incase, you need it. Barclays, customer relations.Leicester,LE87 2BB.
Currently Barclays are looking into my claim as I have had the reserve on my account just over 2 years, but I have been charged reserve fees, when Direct debits havnt been paid, its a complex case which I hope will be resolved soon. Good luck to your friend.0
