Best radiators advice

Hi,

I live in a solid walled house, no cavity. We have the boiler turned up to maximum to heat the house quicker. The problem is that the radiators would burn you if you touched them. I know that I can turn them down with the temperature controls but it takes forever to heat the rooms. They are simple ones like this http://www.samsonsjoinery.co.uk/slimline-radiator.jpg

Are there slim line ones that dissipate heat better or what are the best modern ones? I will be renovating soon and need to know what best to put in.

Many thanks,
C

You could always upgrade to double panel radaitors, I fitted one of these a few months back.

  • Have you noticed much difference and how does the double panel increase warmth. I understand that it may double the dissiaption of heat but will the heat not still go into the wall?

    Thanks

Why should the heat from a double rad go into the wall any more than that from a single rad. The back radiating surface is just the same distance from the wall in both cases. A double rad will allow more heat into the room whilst still using a rad of the same overall dimensions. All rads will burn you if you touch them, so the answer is not to touch them whilst they are chucking out heat.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Thanks 27 col. I was just wondering about the radiators as, if I had a young child, the radiators would probably cause serious burns. They're that hot.

As I have a single radiator, would getting a double with single convector be best or go the whole hog and get double with double convectors?

I replaced some singles with doubles and the difference was huge.

So much so, you could probably have them on a lower temp and still throw out far more heat

Have you tried doing a BTU type calc to see what is suggested for the rooms?

No. I'll find a calc now. Thanks again for all the advice.

The BTU calc says 23692.5. We have one radiator under bay window, one on long wall (internal) and one in alcove (exterior wall). All double glazed.
