Is it possible to install the GPS myself? i.e. - plug into cigarette lighter, and use the 'sucker for the GPS as a mount. I don't want it to be integrated.

If the GPS doesn't have traffic re-reouting, does that mean if I go the wrong way I won't be 'put back on track'/alternative route to the destination? :o

This is how most GPS systems work. To have it integrated with the dash would cost quite a bit. Remember to clean off marks from the sucker after you remove it and take the sat nav with you as some thieves expect to find the sat nav in the glove box.

Most (if not all) GPS's will try put you right if you go the wrong way whether they have a traffic feature or not. Often they will just try to get you to do a U turn, but if you keep going, depending on the route, they usually eventually pick up and try make a route in the direction you're going.

Lane guidance, this is usually a reasonable guide but you're far better off looking at the road signs and using the early warning from the sat nav as a guide. Remember the features of a sat nav depend on the internal "map" it has, you will probably want to update this as soon as you buy it to make sure you have the latest most accurate map available. And even still the most up to date maps can have many mistakes on, a common one I've found is finding a roundabout instead of a junction, or a roundabout in the middle of where there is meant to be straight road. Have even known a sat nav to say "turn right" only to be faced with a no right turn sign, and this is in more than one place.

Only consider the sat nav a guide, don't go driving into rivers/brick walls etc.
