Making microwable handwarmers

13»

Comments

  • Sorry to rain on your parade but you may find that stretchy T-shirt fabric is not the best for making your microwaveable handwarmers. Apart from the fact that it is not easy to sew to prevent runs, it is also horribly stretchy and I can envisage a class of kids holding handwarmers that have gone from neat 4" x 6" rectangles to some snakey looking sausage thingie!

You would probably be better with a firmer fabric which will keep it's shape despite lots of hauling about. My recommendation would be a pair of old cotton based curtains from your charity shop - cheap, sound and loads of fabric for your money.

I have to say I love my school. If you are cold = wear more, hot = wear less, sunny = wear sunglasses and sun cream.

    We also -
play conkers, climb trees, build dens at playtime and loads of other things that health and safety schools would FREAK out at. However we have kids who can take care of themselves and sort themselves out.

I think hand warmers are a fantastic idea and I might mike my class some as a cheap present. They were going to get microwavable popcorn and a dvd. Now which would they prefer?

    Probably the DVD - lol

I love it when people say things like "they are so easy to make" - they clearly have never met me :rotfl:. I am rubbish at all things crafty and my sewing skills are limited to sewing on a button :o

Still I'd like to give them a try :D
If/when you find them I'd really like to see some pics
