That's ridiculous!! I just can't see any sort of logic behind not allowing gloves at breaktime. Poor kids will freeze :(

My sister's school have a rule that the pupils can't take their jumpers off at any time. Even in the summer in the middle of a heatwave they have to keep them on! If they are seen without a jumper they get a detention. There was one day last summer that they were permitted to take their jumpers off as it was so hot a pupil fainted. They haven't changed the rules though and it will be the same this year.

I trust my 5yo and 3yo to decide when they are too hot/too cold and whether they need a jumper or not - I would hope that 11-18yr olds would be able to make that decision :rotfl:

It's so stupid! My school were the same, but if it got hot then everyone had to take their jumper off.

I don't see the sense in some of these rules, they're really affecting the kids' health. Is there not some sort of law to stop stupid rules that can make a child ill?!

I cannot comment on the rationale behind the decision as I didn't make it.
The kids have some access to indoors at break and lunch and I believe that is where they are supposed to be, without gloves etc. Many prefer to be outside, getting fresh air.
My little revolution would be just to make sure they are warm getting to school, hopefully the temperature will have risen a little during the day for the walk home. They wouldn't be able to heat them up before going home.
  • As soon as one of mine was diagnosed with Raynauds, a short, sharp letter into the school querying whether preventing her from taking steps to minimise the pain and distress caused by her medical condition was in contravention of the Disability Discrimination Act, resulted in the entire policy of no warm clothing being abandoned.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Good for you :T But it really shouldn't take that. I am shocked and appalled that kids are being banned from wearing coats  and gloves  Absolutely taking power too far. No doubt Mr 'Head@ arrived in his heated car, and will go into his heated office... whilst the children may have walked, got the bus or train to school... Nooooooo, i am incensed by this.

My children WILL be wearing coats in winter, and gloves and scarfs and whatever I/they see fit... and they will NOT be wearing sweaters in summer.

Any problems... home ed for mine.

    End of.
Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

Don't get me wrong. They can wear coats etc to and from school, it's while they are on school time that they can't.

    Good news.
Today we were told they COULD wear scarves and gloves HURRAH.
Also every single one of my tutor group want to learn to make their OWN handwarmers, and three wan to learn to knit.
I'll pop to our local charity shop that has a 50p rail and grab some old t-shirts etc then get a BIG bag of rice. Might even do an experiment to see if rice is better than wheat.
I'll let you know how it goes.
