Wireless CCTV

Hi

Any recommendations for a 2 camera wireless CCTV system with hardrive recorder, preferably motion detection and night / IR vision and decent image quality?

Do you get good duration from camera batteries (I assume they run on batteries) or is it best to bite the bullet and install a wired system? I don't wnat to be up and down ladders several times a year.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

Get a wired system, Especially if fitting them externally or in cold areas. Decent camera's will have a small heating
element to help keep the lens clear on cold frosty days/nights.

Battery powered will not last long.

Depends on your budget and the area to be covered, Cheaper systems will have limited range with IR lights, May not
be powerful enough to cover the area you need.

Thanks, sounds like good advice. Haven't done any research yet but off the cuff, budget £200.
With a wired system, I may locate the recorder in my loft to save having to run wires to lower floors. Seem reasonable.
    Could you suggest a brand?

    Hi

All seems good. I got a 4 camera wired Friedland system off Ebay (bargain £150). Very impressed.
I also got a wireless camera link from Maplin that I've used to link the DVR to my TV.
I agree that wiring the external cameras is preferable because they have a powered air circulation system to prevent condensation. Thanks for the tips.

  • I bought a 4 camera recorder 4 years ago and the recorder cost me £300 alone- and I bought a budget one :)

I do a bit of CCTV on occasion and you get what you pay for. Also when you buy a hard drive recorder also get a decent UPS as this will extend the life and reliability of the drive and recorder

    My system cost
HDD recorder £300 (a similar model is now £450, inc HDD)
    Cameras (wired) £200 (4x£50)
    Cable £65
    Sundries £30

You get what you pay for
    baldly going on...

This is the one I went for. Retails at up to £400 so I've done OK.

Will look into a UPS. If it's for relaibility would a surge protector not be OK?

Have a look at IP camera. If you've got a suitable hub they'll only need an Ethernet cable and you can use you pc to record onto. Even set up PC to email out vids and pics when motion is detected to a remote server.
  • Wired, otherwise you'll be up the ladder several times a month.

Thinking of getting something like this (want proper night vision & narrow angle)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/pro-620-long-range-security-camera-night-vision-25m-351376 (daftly, the casing is WHITE!)

anyone had experience with these and how best to connect, then store and if needed view the images?
