Travel insurance cover for bad weather?

Options
We are travelling from London to Cornwall the week after Christmas to stay in a cottage with some friends. If we take out a one week travel insurance policy do you think we will get paid out if we cant get there because of the snow and bad weather? I figure a £10 insurance premium is better than losing the cost of the cottage whilst sitting on the M25 but I have read the small print and cant find anywhere that says they will or will not pay out due to the weather.
Not checked with the cottage owner as to her status on this yet.
Thanks.

You are going to have to phone around to ask about this, as policies vary.

Just because you have a problem travelling on one day, would not lead to a claim for the whole cost of the cottage. The Insurers would expect you to try travelling the next day or if there was a problem with one mode of transport to try another.

You need to put questions to the Insurers i.e If I lose 1 day due to weather delay or if I lose the whole holiday as I am snowed in etc, what cover does the Insurance provide ?

No point going into this on a forum. You have to do some research or ask a broker to do it for you.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Plus as we now know there is/will be bad weather it probably isn't something you can insure against.

As huckster says it's unlikely you'll be unable to get their at all by any form of transport for the entire week.
  • As the winter weather is set to continue for some time, it is highly unlikely you will get this insurance now. After all, there is every chance that you will claim - it's a known.
