But they haven't passed this off as incomplete either (at least until the OP confirms) so again they should get a full refund due to it being not as described.

Agreed, hence why the OP needs to confirm. All we can do is make assertions without the OP confirming.

  • No, OP is possibly not entitled to a refund as they never gave them the opportunity to correct the mistake, as I see it, that is their only obligation at this time.

Next time check at the store when you purchase, as it it clear you were told this was a return by accepting the partial discount.

No need to give an opportunity to correct the mistake as the OP can reject it outright.

I hope you are not confusing the issue with DSR, the objects were sold at a discount, that OP did not inspect at the time. The retailer does not have to give a refund at all, but they can, and possibly will correct the missing said items.

Thanks everyone for the discussion on this.

I did get a full refund without any problems. I was told the router was most likely returned due to the original purchaser having a different phone line (virgin etc.). I think I was entitled to a full refund because at no time did the assistant explain to me I was effectively buying a mistery box! I don't see what difference it makes what was missing; if the product is not sold as advertised, and that is not explained to me, in my oppinion my rights have been breached.

And by the way, when I returned the router the assistant didn't even check it, I could have handed her anything.
