Car Hire @ Gerona Airport

In a couple of weeks i'm off to spain for a few days, i was looking at car hire as its about the same price as a transfer but having read a few reviews it seems i may well be hit for extra charges when i'm at the airport. This is through hire agencies such as argus and do-you-spain.
Does anyone know a decent yet cheap hire firm that arent going to try to shaft me at Gerona airport?

At least you are aware there will be some additional costs from the price quoted. There is a pretty good chance you will be charged for a full tank of fuel, which will be at least 50 Euros, no credit for unused fuel, although you might get a full to full policy if only for a few days. Also tyre, glass and even clutch "misuse" can be waived for upwards of 3 Euros a day.
Basically if you are going to use the car for a trip to Barcelona or to explore the area then go for it, if you are just using it to transfer to and from a hotel in Llorett or nearby, then probably better off using transfers.0 -
I was actually thinking of taking a trip up to andorra so would probably use most of a tank of fuel anyway.
However the more i think about it the more hassle it seems so i think i may just get a transfer instead.0 -
We drove up to Andorra, from Salou, it was a lovely drive up through the mountains. In Salou it was 30 degrees but much cooler and wetter in Andorra, the locals were highly amused at the English in their shorts and flip-flops.
To be honest there wasn't a lot to do there, the cigs and spirits were very cheap but restricted to 200/1L p.p. and every car was being stopped at the border on the way out and boot checked etc. I'm glad we went but only to say we've been there, probably wouldn't go back again.
We went in June and there was snow on the mountains then, guess it might be a bit trickier at this time of year.0 -
Well i was only planning on going like you did for the novelty so i'll not bother then.
thanks for the info though!0 -
Can you take ANY Spanish hire car over to Andorra.
I know there is perhaps only one company which allows Spain to France. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0
