LA fitness

So iv just joined LA fitness! personally i love it the gym is great pool looks lovely and i think the price is reasonable (£27.90 for a student 12 month membership)

im a little worried though because i did a quick google search for reviews on the gym and the majority were complaints about them charging extra, having issues getting out of the contract even after the period they had signed for and various other issues!

im just wondering if anyone has any experience or information on this!

fingers crossed things will be ok! the staff there seemed lovely and its in a nice area of town. i wasnt pressured into joining as id explained originally that i was just looking and hoping to view a few more gyms before making my decision.

any information would be really appreciated!

Thanks
Jodie!

  • all i'd suggest is that you make a note of when your year's membership expires so that you can give them a month's notice that you're leaving if you decide to do so.

So why didn't you stick to your original plan? If you wanted to look around some more gyms before deciding why did you join the first one you went to?

I'll probably get slated for this because some people won't believe me but I can't help thinking that this is some kind of promotion for LA and an attempt to counter negative publicity.

LOL ;) If you read my other posts on this board (possibly only one from about a year ago) you'll know im definitely not a promoter!
im a student nurse -nothing more! nothing less!

n i joined because I liked the gym and wanted to, the whole looking round other gyms was what i was going to say in the hope that they wouldnt pressure me or ring me loads - i should have made that clearer but didnt really think it had very much relevance to my post (just a bit of extra waffle i cant help but add in), id already been to the uni gym which was an absolute dive so decided to join there!

and also if i was to be promoting i doubt id mention all the negative stuff iv read on google, the stuff iv mentioned is really just the surface!!
its a great gym looks very appealing so i love it! but i decided to post on here because of what i had read on other sites!

but yeh! im certainly not a promoter i have a life! lol!
i'd recommend it to my friends after a few months of going to see how it is! but thats as far as id go!

another worry is.. i dont think i've got a copy of the proper contract its just one sheet of paper printed off it clearly states my contract is only for a year n the price etc... but it doesnt have any T&C's on it ill talk to them today when i go in probs.

Thank you for answering my question!
i shall certainly be writing the date down! im also going to try and get something more formal today down on paper!

thanks for the extremely negative n quite rude comments about my naivety! although id rather be called naive than accused of being one of those annoying people that post promotional info and not genuine posts! My friends havnt joined a gym theyre considering the uni one but i prefer LA fitness - it looks nice has new equipment has everything i want really!
i've been to the gym twice! (probs not enough in yours books for me to pass judgement)
i had a very good workout no issues aircon and equipment and everything else i could possibly want in working order

Im also not so naive that i cant look through the forum myself! i have infact seen these posts which led me to post my own! these are only a few peoples experiences and ofcoarse people who have had a negative experience will rant n rave (as they are entitled to do so)
i was hoping someone who had had a positive experience could let me know that they can infact be ok! which so far for me they have been!
  • i do appreciate the last post you sent with the info about other people who have had issues with T&Cs but i think there was no need for you to approach this in the way you have done!

so you decided to completely ignore my entire point for the thread! my questions relating the negative things that i HAD read! thanks for showing me the posts that i'd already seen! and as for the government failing me! so what if i decide i want to write shorthand as far as i knew this wasnt an academic essay/ piece why does it matter?
  • so your sat slagging off and being rude to an 18 year old online!? wow! i might not have "much life experience" but i do have a LIFE! i came on here to get advice as yes im 18 and dont know the ins and outs of contracts n such so wanted a little bit of advice!

    Hey

I was a member of LA Fitness a few years back (the one here is now closed) and actually really enjoyed the gym. Nice surrounding, helpful staff etc. Only problems I had was when I tried to cancel my membership. I sent a letter in which they claimed they didn't receive, I then handed in a copy at the front desk which was somehow lost during transit to head office and I had no proof of doing so (even though their staff member confirmed he received this). In the end I sent recorded delivery to their head office but by this time they had managed to sting me an extra 2 months membership (£70) and were very very unpleasant to deal with. If you decided to cancel after your year is up I'd say to send recorded delivery to save yourself any potential hassle.
