Completion date confirmed - now what!?

Ive exchanged and a completion date has been set for 2 weeks time. What do I need to do before the completion date and what do I need to do after completion? For example, I know I need to tell banks, DVLA etc.. of my change of address, but what happens with telling energy suppliers to switch on the electricity (I don't know if the electricity is on or not at the property). What happens if the vendor hasn't paid the bills - am I liable for them? Is it a simple case of telling the council I've moved in an need to pay council tax there or do I need to do that before completion?
Does anyone have a 'hit list' of things to do when moving into a new house? It's all new to me!

Ask who the current energy providers are and on the day of completion read the meters and phone them up to change the account over. Worth then jumping online and finding out if they will be the cheapest.
I also phoned the council the day I moved in, but the previous owner had already notified them of the move anyway to cancel their direct debit.0 -
You are not liable for bills in someone else's name.
Checklist here.
ps - Took me 6 seconds to google it. 'moving home checklist' - there are dozens of others!0 -
Well for a start if you've not got buildings insurance in place you need to get that sorted.0
