FOI request from a plc?

Can anyone tell me if the Freedom of Information act applies to public Limited companys (plc) or Limited companys?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, didn't know where else to post it

No - just to "public services" such as the Council, Government, Police etc.

The Data Protection Act might apply to a plc - what are you trying to get?

Any/ all information that a certain company :rolleyes: may hold about me.

If a company holds data on you then you can get them to reveal it to you under the Data Protection Act I believe.

The Informations Commissioner's Office recomends you send a letter along the lines of....

Dear Sir or Madam

Please send me the information which I am entitled to under the Section 7(1) of the Data Protection Act 1998.

If you need further information from me, or a fee, please let me know as soon as possible.

If you do not normally handle these requests for your organisation, please pass this letter to your Data protection officer or another appropriate official.

It is the DPA.

You may want to specify all info held about you, hard copy & electronic (cover emails & databases too!).

Would reccommend you send it recorded delivery as the time starts to tick on reciept.
