    You can buy underlay from Screwfix - either on a roll or the concertina panels. We have it undernaeth engineered oak flooring and it is fine. Unless he can get you a discount I would get my own underlay.

    How is that likely to help and what happens if the underlay that the client supplies is carp and the end result isn't up to scratch. Who gets the blame?

    Same as would happen if the laminate the customer has sourced is no good, I suppose. But as the OP is sourcing his own laminate, he might as well source the underlay. The fitter may put a mark up on the underlay which is going to add to the cost.

    I woud either get the fitter to source and fit it all, or source both components myself. If he is a good guy he might pass his trade discount on in full.
