I can`t believe me. I spent ages last year making and laminating a pantry inventory. It was great while I was using it but somehow I got out of the habit and you can guess the rest!!!
I have just emerged from my kitchen cupboards for a break. I have found 5 tins of baked beans, 7 jars of stir-in pasta sauce, 9 tins of tomatoes and that`s just for starters. I daren`t mention all the other duplicates. Ok I know some were bogof but I have been getting ridiculous again. Me and my hibernating, squirreling instinct!!
I went to tesco this morning but I am so determined to stay put until we have worked our way through this lot
Oh well back to it!!

tell me about it, weve done the same. To the point where I can barely close the doors.
Yes, asome of it ois bogof, yes some of it was "get a load of tins and the heavy stuff while we have use of a car" some of it was pinched from the parents.
But theres an unbelievable amount of food in.
Need to start thinking about using it all up, so we are doing a bit of a storecupboard challenge, until I spent 50 qiud in Mr Ts over the weekend :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Dont talk to me about pantries! I emptied my grandparents over the weekend (they had to be moved into a home and couldnt take everything!) its now stuffed in my cupboards.
I have to work out something to do with 7 tins of sliced apple (thinking a crumble as we dont do apple pie or sauce) 5 jars of honey (my mum has taken another 3 and aunt 4 and we sent them off with 2 to the home we are still trying to work out why on earth they thought they needed 15 jars of honey  !) and a huge jar of pickled pears!
other treats were
3 tins of corned beef, corned beed hash here we go (will go with the box of instant mash they had too!)
enough cook in sauces to last till christmas
enough lentils to feed a small army a lentil curry for a week
and much much much more....
BUT you cant complain, its all free food and i wont have to do any shopping for another few months!0 -
My name is Addiscomber and I am a tin and packet hoarder
I am disabled in a way that I can no longer drive, and we hate supermarket shopping. So DH and I go about once every 2 months and stock up. In between I walk, slowly, down the road to the local shops and buy the fresh stuff from the butcher, baker greengrocer and Co-op. It is too dangerous for me to leave the house if there is snow or thick frost, so I do build up stocks throughout autumn. However, apart from tinned tomatoes, even I don't have 15 of anything :eek:0 -
I must say your duplicates sound really moderate compared with mine :whistle:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Maybe I shouldn't mention this, but since joining the boards here I have become so much better with meal planning and buying what we need that for DS's school harvest assembly I had to go out and buy the tins we gave as a donation! Everything in the cupboard we will use for a meal between now and the end of the month and I didn't have that a rogue tin of soup or veg lurking at the back of the cupboard I bought for us to try but we've never got round to....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

I can't help it - I get all agitated if I haven't got at least two tins of beans, tuna, sardines, corned beef, tomatoes, kidney beans, fruit cocktail, tinned pineapple - the list goes on. I am terrible for hoarding - I am the same with the freezer - I have lost count of the times I have gone out and bought meat when we have had a freezer full of frozen meat which I have forgotten to take out in time. I am working on the freezer though and have got through most of the meat and am now working on reducing the amount of frozen vegetables - I have two freezers and they are both full....Jane

I am quite embarassed to tell you this, but I have:
192 toilet rolls
enough washing powder for 408 loads ( thing is, I don't use the amount they tell you so I get quite a lot more)
14 toothpastes
30+ liquid handwashes
72 soaps
more shower gel and bubble bath than I care to admit
Enough shampoo to last a year
10 deodorants
don't even get me started with body lotion!
PLUS, I also have loads of stuff left over from my beauty therapy business
On the bright side, at least I only have to buy food for the next... rest of my life!

Firstly.... freyasmum.....  !!
I probably have duplicates in my storecupboard, but nothing extreme.
What I do have are two crates of tins, sugar, salt, biscuits, figs etc because I got really paranoid about the Bird Flu last year:o. But they are stored away neatly and I do go through them at the end of the year and move any soon to expire products to the 'edible' pile. I think I had enough for three weeks of staying indoors, including water bottles in case the tap ran dry!!:D
:wall:0 -
agutka maybe you have hit the nail on the head with me. I have some stocks of dried meals tucked away in a cupboard in case bird flu comes and the food stores get emptied. The food is all neatly stashed in a study cupboard and I don`t notice it and will leave them alone. I also have water filters and masks and I hope we never need to use them. Anyway I am of the generation that did see shelves emptied in a few hours so there is a bit of psychology going on here
I need to go with the flow and relax re supermarket stocks.0 -
I take after my mum and am now a recovering cupboard hoarder. I really try not to duplicate too much, how many jars of curry sauce can one household get through (10 in cupboard at mo!)! I still seem to buy these BOGOF offers though, can't seem to help it.
I have just started shopping with Asda on-line and would recommend it as it stops me buying for the sake of it. If I need something, it goes in the basket and you can check in your cupboard if somethings missing at the same time. There are loads of codes to get money off and I feel i am actually saving money - I used to buy loads of nearly out-of-date stuff and ultimately it never got used - so hows that saving??
Anyway good luck to you all - I do not need any curry sauce, I do not need any curry sauce ....If you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.0
