Electric heater or central heating to heat one room

I've just moved into a rental flat in Glasgow. It's been renovated fairly recently and it's a small flat with just a bedroom, kitchen/living area and small hall and bathroom so I figured it would be reasonably cheap to heat.

Problem is it doesn't hold heat at all. Less than an hour after turning off the gas central heating it's disturbingly cold in the living room again. Also, it takes much longer to heat the living room than the bedroom.

When I get in from work I stay in the living room until I go to bed at night. Would I be better using an electric heater in the living room rather than putting the central heating on all the time when most of the heat goes into the bedroom?
