Buying a house and providing the building insurance

As a rule (is there one?) are most rebuild costs the same as what the house is valued at? I didn't think this was true (but obviously may be wrong) but the EA told me to put it down the rebuild as the valuation figure.
I know it will have the rebuild cost on the mortgage offer but that is currently at work with my husband.

Rebuild costs differ from valuations, you don't have to rebuild the land, which is included in the V. Many insurance websites have a calculator for rebuild costs. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Our survey report actually had an insurance value included in it. When we first took out house insurance the policy was well over and above the rebuild costs as the standard cover0
