We arrived :D Glad you were all looking out for us :rotfl: We did rather think you've be a bit worried - sorry! :o

(since I've temporarily taken over Pippi's house, chickens, and pretty much whole life :D I'm going to do occasional holiday updates on your diary Pippi - hope that's alright :D So you can get Pippi-on-holiday updates, and Cheery-on-holiday-in-Pippi-land updates in the same place :D)

Ferry was uneventful, thank goodness :rotfl: Missed the only bus of the day to Pippi's house, and there wasn't a taxi available for a while, so we set off walking (separately :rotfl: It's amazing what a nice hot temper can do for your strength and determination :rotfl:) Eventually got a lift from a nice man and arrived at Pippi's house :D

She was at work, so we put the kettle on (obviously :rotfl:) calmed down, and warmed up :D Pippi's house is indeed Very Exciting :D

Eventually Pippi herself turned up - bit strange her coming in the back door to find us already in her kitchen :rotfl: But we had a fine old evening with her and OH, they are indeed both very lovely, and we nattered for hours and hours :D

The morning was a whilrwind of chicken tutorials, Darwin starting, and jumping up and down of Peedie the dog, running about and packing

Since then, it's been rather quiet :rotfl: Poor old Darwin is flatly refusing to start for us at all - obviously we don't have the right knack :o So we're confined to feet at the minute! (unless we can catch a lift on a passing highland cow, that is :rotfl:) Went into the main town today - which involved walking for 45 minutes to catch the bus, and had lunch in a cheery little cafe we remembered from last time (£6.10 for 2 egg butties, 2 mugs of tea and a scone - very MSE! :T)

Got the bus on the way home, to be greeted by some gobby lout claiming the bus driver ran him over (or 'nearly' ran him over, depending on how cross he was at that particular minute). He wound himself up into such a temper, and actually ended up calling 999 himself because he was so cross :rotfl:

(I'm afraid we left the bus after a while - I can't abide being trapped in a small space with an unpredictable angry man, and several other passengers were at this point joining in shouting/trying to calm him down, so there didn't seem much point us doing that too...)

And there was me thinking Pippi lived in a quiet sleepy island - when actually it's a hotbed of crime! :rotfl: (I did have to laugh when the man shouted 'this is ALWAYS happening to me!' :rotfl:)

Finally got another bus (he was on the second we tried to get, having been chucked off the first :rotfl:), and walked 2.5 miles back to Pippi's house through freezing fog, hardly able to see the ends of our noses.

Home again now, nice and warm (obviously got tea and a mince pie), and have finally figured out how to use the TV :rotfl: :rotfl:

Overall having a great time, and while there have been moments when even I haven't been quite as cheery as you would expect, everything is fab :D Just poked my head in on the chickens, and a few little beady eyes stared at me out of the cosy shed as if to say 'what on earth are you doing tramping round here making a noise at this time of night?!' so I've left them to it, and am going to put the kettle on again :D

Have a lovely day tomorrow all

Who'd have thought it would be such an exciting adventure! I was always told to floor the accelerator when starting a temperamental car (release as soon as it catches assuming it does :rotfl:)

  • Not sure if Darwin is petrol or diesel, but you might try depressing the clutch fully to the floor while the engine turns over - might well help, although I'm not certain why! :D

Glad all goes well up there - I take it you are all set for your christmas dinner tomorrow? I had to laugh at your account of the man on the bus - in my experience island buses are reknowned for the strange characters you meet on them! :rotfl:
