Is there any advantage to booking flights for next years hols this year, to beat the increase in V.A.T. next year. or will the airlines simply add the extra after the booking

If you book now you will pay vat at today's rates airlines cannot add it on after,the vat charged is the rate applicable at time of booking0 -
There is no VAT on flights so it shoudn't matter.0

not quite true there. ok, so there is no VAT on flights anyway, but if there is a new government imposed tax added to bookings at a later stage, airlines do have a right to charge it (after all, a government tax collected with the ticket cost here is only the same as paying a visa charge on arrival - like Turkey for example who charge £10 to get in). However most airlines you will find will try absorb the cost on bookings that have already been made, and recoup it from new booking, but not always.[FONT="]I used to be a Travel Agent [/FONT]Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry.
