I turned off my laptop correctly at Noon today but when I wanted to switch it on again this afternoon the screen was blank. I took the plug out for about 15 mins then when I turned the laptop on again I got a black screen with a couple of options about what to do. It is fine again now but as this has happened twice now in the last couple of days is it a sign that there is a problem ahead? It is just inside the two year warrantee.

You get those options when Windows has terminated abnormally, e.g. if the machine freezes and you have to do a hard reset or hit the power button. Usually, Windows restarts normally after such minor mishaps. Provided it is now working correctly, it should be OK, but if it happens repeatedly you will need to investigate further.0
