Barclays Online banking

I thought I would let others know that Barclays need to be watched in terms of their so-called 'fraund-prevention' tactics. I have been online banking with them for many years now and only occassionaly make the odd standing order, or pay a credit card bill. Well, last week I wanted to transfer about 2k which was a cleared cheque to another account, only to find an error message not allowing me to do it. I phoned them up and it turns out that this was something they did over their entire system to prevent fraud on accounts I am told where online payments are not done regularly. (I never respond to scam emails and no all about fraud) I said ok, would it not have been nice to have been told about this rather than just apply it without notice. I did say to them what is the point in on-line banking if you can't actually online bank ! I told them I don't have this sort of problem with Cahoot. They said they were sorry and would arrange to have this block taken off (still waiting). I then went into the local branch and asked to withdraw 2k in cash, explaining the problem, the cashier with a blank look on her face, said something like I don't think I have enough (mumble mumble)...what enough...cash ! ?:rotfl: she then said o.k she could but i would need some form of I.D, I had mortgage statements and other banking correspondence with me but of course, not on "the list" and so therefore could not proceed. This is not the first time I have felt totally frustrated with Barclays, they used to be a very good and helpful bank, but over recent years, like all banks I guess have become totally faceless. the frustation of having cleared money on the account and not being able to get at it I found very frustrating. It makes me want to tell them to stuff their account where the sun don't shine even though I have banked with them all my life (current a/c only I add). It has made me decide to some how move my current a/c biz away, although my salary is paid via cheque at the same branch so will probably have to keep the account and arrange transfer out. it will be a hassle changing all the DD's and SO's and keeping an eye that they transfer o.k, but I may as well get a decent interest rate and use my cahot a/c as my main a/c. Anyone else find their high street banks to have changed for the worse ?

I overcame this online banking restriction by registering for telephone banking, where they have more 'relaxed' rules.0

Whats the alterative, some randomer walks into branch without photographic id emptying all you hard earned cash from your account. I, for one, am grateful that Barclays are protecting my money.0 -
I think its good that Barcays Bank stopped you from moving £2,000, you say that you hardly ever move money that way so they were only protecting you, which has to be a good thing.
This could have been someone else trying to move money from your account.
A quick phone call to them to prove who you are would have sorted the problem.
When you go into the branch you need the right ID to protect your money.
If you go into the bank a lot the staff get to know you and won't ask for ID its only when they see a new face they have to be sure.
Would you rather they gave your money to someone else posing as you0 -
I think you're missing the general point in the context, but no matter.0

The point being that they had taken away a key function of online banking (i.e making a payment) without saying a word, I may have been banking on making that transfer to make a mortagage payment for example.
"A quick phone call to them to prove who you are would have sorted the problem."
I did, it wasn't. Am still waiting for one of their "online" team to take off this block.0 -
I had the same problem a few months ago.. All I did was do X number of transfers, each for £1000, one per day.. No big deal.
Thank God they didnt give you the money without Photo proof.. If they did, what would that say about the security?
We live in a world where people wouldnt think twice about taking other peoples money (SADLY), so they are only trying to protect our money..0 -

For smaller amounts Im sure you can get away with your bank card, or perhaps something similar.. but for £2000 they need to ask for something else, dont you think?0
