Places to eat Manchester

I'm going into Manchester on Wed 8th December...will be doing the shops and Christmas markets but then looking for somewhere to eat in the evening. Don't want to be going too early as we're then killing time after shops will close so we can give son a lift home from a gig he's going to at the MEN - hoping to find somewhere to eat around 8ish which is when I know it might get mad busy, especially with it being close to Christmas
Last year we did this and ended up in Old Orleans in the Printworks as we didn't know of any non-chain places and decided to at least go with something we knew. But if anyone has any recommendations for somewhere reasonably priced that makes a change from the 'brand names' it's be great. It doesn't have to be right near the MEN - we'll be wandering over lots of the city anyway, so anywhere in the city centre would be fine. I love Italian, he loves steaks, happy to find a decent pub that does non-pretentious meals

Piccolino, Ego and Croma (all on the same street near the town hall, not far from the MEN) are all nice (Italian/meditaranean)
Ego do 40% off a la carte menu Monday to Thursday if you sign up to their mailing list too http://www.egorestaurants.co.uk/0 -
Kill 2 birds here, Piccolino do the most amazing steak and proper italian!
Its just off Albert Sq on Clarence St (Starbucks on the corner) so you can spend some time at the Christmas Market and then relax and warm up at Piccolino.
Gaucho Grill, Grill on The Alley, Croma and Rosso are also good places to eat.0 -
Would go with Piccolino's, restaurant bar and grill, grill on the alley, choaphraya, sams chop house for traditional food0

We had an excellent meal at the Stock last year. The former stock market.0

I'd recommend Piccolinos too. If you wanted a pub then Sam or Mr Thomas Chop Houses are both very good. I think Sam's is nicer inside though

lol see it has already been mentioned... least I know I have good taste!"It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." :T0 -
I can recommend GiorGios down on the corner of Oxford Road and Portland Street. About 5minutes walk from the Christmas market, and close to the Cornerhouse which has an excellent bar, serving cocktails and good bar snacks.0

My son mentioned Sam Chophouse but couldnt remember name when I asked him! Thanks for all the suggestions...think it'll be a choice between sams and piccolinos0

A bit late, but agreed. Piccolino is a winner. Their pastas are freshly made everyday and steak is unbelievable for the price. It's not doing so bad on Trip Advisor either.0
