I am thinking of doing the currys deal, trading in 3yo laptop for a shiny new one... Deal looks sound to me...

Anyway the laptop I am thinking about doesnt have an RJ45 port to enable a wired connection. Obviously I have a router and am wireless but was just looking for opinions on whether it is any great shakes not having a RJ45 port to enable wired connection?

If your wireless connection on the laptop or on the router fails then you're stuffed! Unless you have something else with an ethernet connection. Usually you need an ethernet connection to set up a router reliably .

I'm amazed that they sell laptops without an ethernet connection. You might be able to get a plug-in card, if necessary.

A 3year old laptop without ethernet?

Why do you want to change it - because it's slow? Backup, reinstall windows using erecovery partition, if it's still slow, try it without the battery

Sorry, the new laptop doesnt have a RJ45 port, not the one i have. Changing laptops because current one is sloooooowwwww. It does only have 1gb of RAm to be fair to it...

Altho maybe I am getting confused, below is what it says on the spec of the laptop I am thinking of buying -

Modem/Ethernet
Gigabit Ethernet, Wake-on-LAN ready

uninstall avg, spybot, adaware, winpcap, run norton removal tool and avg removal tool

disable windows defender realtime scanning

run startuplite, and fix any recommendations

run this

reset ie to defaults under tools, internet options, advanced

It's better, lighter, faster, uses less ram, and your avg version is well out of date
