Winter tyres are well worth it, they make a lot of difference.
No matter how many superman powers you have, if the tyres don't grip, they don't grip.

The 185/60/15 will be ok, providing they are good on the rim, they're all within a few percent of each other, the speedo will under-read by 3 mph at 70.

The 185 / 195 is the width of the tread, and so the width of the tyre, the 55 / 60 /65 is the height of the sidewall, as a percentage of the width,
so a 195/55 is higher than a 185/55, and hence the tyre diameter is bigger, and a 185/60 is higher than a 185/55 so it's diameter is bigger as well, but they're all within 20mm diameter of each other.
The difference in a new tyre at 8mm and a worn one at 2mm is 12mm diameter, so it's not alot.

    Thank you
that explanation makes a lot of sense.

Ther original fit would have been 185/55/15 so 195/50/15 would be an acceptable (and probably most common and cheapest size) fit. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp shows te effects of different sizes.

    195/50 are £10 to £15 dearer a tyre than 185/60
  • O.K so if I have this right.
    185/55/15 would be best,followed by 195/50/15,then 185/60/15

Thinner tyres are better than wider on snow, so I'd have gone for 185 rather than 195, with the proviso they're ok on the rim.
No real difference in the 50/55/60 as listed above, so I've have gone for the cheapest/most available. If that's 185/60, they're the ones.
They're all within a couple of percent of each other diameter wise.

Spooky, 185/60 winter tyres are generally cheaper but standard tyres are dearer.
