Renault Clio headlights problem

Options
Apologies for double posting... I've posted this in the Techies bit, but just realised it should probably be in here instead:

I have a 2003 Renault Clio, and the other day I found what looked like something from the electrical system that had dropped into the front passenger footwell. It's a small black plastic cuboid with some metal prongs sticking out - it doesn't look like one of the usual fuses, and I know that they're behind a separate panel anyway.

I thought nothing of it at first, as everything seemed to be OK and I assumed a passenger might have dropped it into my car at some point. That was until this morning though, when I realised that my car no longer had working headlights... the sidelights are OK, but it's the dipped headlights that aren't working.

With this in mind, can anyone give me some advice? Presumably this component is to do with the dipped headlights, and has dropped out of the electrical circuitry at some point. Is it a case of just ferreting around under the dashboard and slotting it back in? I haven't had time to look yet cos I had to transfer everything to my wife's car and get to work this morning, but I just thought I'd see if anyone could give some tips before I have a go this evening.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Sounds like the relay for the dipped headlights has come loose and fallen out ( this is what the black cube with the contacts is ) If you have a haynes manual and feel confident it shouldn't be too hard to find where it goes and fix it. If you are a member of the AA or RAC it should be a 10 minute job for them to fix.
  • What headlights are they HID or normal ones. Be carefull if they are HID as they are high voltage

Cheers folks, all sorted now - I found the empty socket and shoved it back in and my lights work again!
