Cancellation Fees

I have been wanting to switch suppliers and I was worried about cancellation fees should I move - A lot of MSE's have said the majority of the time if you move and cannot take the supply then they are not applicable.
I contacted Npower about this and they said I would still have to pay them regardless. I also contacted OVO energy and sent an email asking the same, I waited a day or so but didn't get a reply so I spoke to someone on the online chat - she too told me the cancellation fees are payable regardless, however the next day I received a response back from the email from OVO saying that if I moved house and did not continue the supply with them then I would not have to pay the fees at all. If I now switch to them and then six months down the line have to cancel due to a house move (rented and some LL in my area are fussy with suppliers), then if they do try to charge me the fees can I use this email as proof of what I was told? Obviously Im slightly concerned OVO have given me conflicting information about this

I was with Ovo and moved house. I was concerned about that too but I was not charged a cancellation fee. So I can say definitely that their email is correct.0
