How much Winter fuel allowance.

My Mum has today received a letter stating that she will receive £125 for WFA as someone else who was entitled to her was living with her on the qualifying date. However, my Father had gone into a nursing home a month earlier and should have had this as his new address. However, social services may have taken time to show this as continuing care. Meanwhile at some point in September my mother was assessed for Pension Credit and was told that she would be entitled to this. My Father has subsequently died.
How easy is it to appeal the amount given and how much is she entitled to?

Difficult to tell what she's entitled to - timing is critical and your account of that is not 100% clear.
It does sound like £250 though, from the pension credit aspect. But it looks as though they are expecting to pay your father and your mother £125 each - and your father's payment could still happen. Any sign of it? It would be a separate letter, maybe even with a cheque if they know he has died.
If it does arrive your mother will be in the same financial position anyway
I'd query it in a few days (or even weeks) time rather than 'appeal' as such0 -
As pointed out above, if your father was alive on the qualifying date in September, a cheque will arrive for his executor.
My mother died in October 2 years ago. I was dealing with her estate and received a cheque for her winter fuel allowance, with a letter noting that as she was alive on the qualifying date, she was due the payment.0 -

Sorry for your loss, but along with paying WFA to Alan Sugar who admits he does not need it, it is paid to dead people, the world has indeed gone mad
BTW, my mother died in the December, so at least she did get some warmth out of it
PS, not getting at anyone on here BTW, if the rules allow it then it all goes in the estate "pot" for distributionEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

it was efficetly your late father's responsibilty to tell the DWP that he had moved, not social services. But has he had gone in a month before the qualifing week he would of been entitled to the half share, as he has now passed away this will pass to the next of kin, when you or somebody else registered his death with the DWP the information is passed to the winter fuel payment team, and they will be dealing with it. The main priorty will be those payment issued now, but they will deal with it. your mum can contact the winter fuel team and explain the circumstances and they may allow a top up. There is no appeal against winter fuel.0 -
I have read that those on pension credit get a more than £250. As my father effectively had a different address ( he was unable to tell DWP, due to the reasons he was in a care home) and as I think it was the qualifying week that Mum was assessed for Pension Credit as a single person, would you be entitled to a higher payment than the £250?0

Where did you read that? There is nothing mentioned on the website.

I got confused, over 80's get a higher amount of £400 and I was skim reading earlier whilst discussing this with my Mum. I'm sure she's entitled to the £250, I'll contact them on Monday and see what they think.0 -
I would think she will either get £125 plus eventually your dad's £125, or if he died before the qualifying date, she will get the £250. Either way, it is £250.0
