How to remove exterior paint from stone walls?

Wondering if anyone has any hints to remove exterior paint from stonework (apart from trying wire brush and elbow grease)!
Only a small patch at front of cottage, and on window sills, but back of cottage has been covered..Obviously realise that the best solution would be sand blasting, but looking for cheaper alternative if possible..
thanks

that's a shame..:( was hoping to find some way of removing it back to stonework.. Paint must have been on for quite a while as some is flaking off.

you should be able to use a pressure washer , the paint doesn't soak in to the brickwork , it forms a skin , if not try a water based paint stripper and do a test patch

knowloads, until you posted this, i had no idea what decopierre was...
thanks to Google images, I am suitably impressed, the only down side is that it looks to be an expensive product, needing to be installed/created by suitable craftsmen.
Have you any idea of the cost per sq/m?

Not sur eof costs, but I believe that the chap that does it is in Manchester and has worked all over the Uk, Can't see it being too expensive or they would not get any work ???? Worth the ask I guess. I found lots more photos on google images and also flickr.com if that helps.
    K:)
  • Unsure..... Decopierrenorth.co.uk based in Manchester, Sq Mtr rate depends on the preparation time but approx £60 sq mtr covers most styles. Qualified Artisan De Decopierre are trained in France, the blokes above have worked in France & UK for +4 years. They did a big house in Birch Heywood last year. The change was incredible from painted walls to stone. Very impressive but as you say, a bit more than a can of paint or a sand and cement render. Hope this helps
