I'm not sure if the buyer was a scammer. To me there are other problems.
I'm sorry to say but I agree with the the other poster - why did you not as a business seller offer a return on the product. If the computer was so good - that would have been normal! Most buyers like to know that they can return a product if any problem. I'm sure when you purchase you'd like to return an item if it is wrong. Perhaps you could have stated in you ad the they buyer would have to pay return costs. I also find it strange that you felt the need to take so many photo's of the computer. It seems excessive.
I'm sorry if you were scammed but something to me does not feel right.

You definately need to check up on ebay sellilng rules if you are not going fall foul of their rules again ! I don't think you have a leg to stand on and if the buyer was a scammer - you yourself have made errors.
To be honest your'e not going to get anywhere sueing ebay - try the buyer if you think you have a strong case. It's unlikely to be worth the cost.

Sorry for the rather blunt reply, but it just the way I see it. All the best.
  • It does not suprise me that the buyer won the dispute. Ebay and paypal never read what ever is written in the dispute.
Both sides can put things in it literally saying "GIVE THE SELLER BACK HIS MONEY" and they wont even read it.
80%+ of it is a computer system and if you conform to the way it works you will win(Like provide tracking numbers). In that way I bet a human doesnt even see the dispute.

I hate selling things nowadays and really only buy small price items on Ebay because of being screwed over.

i was unaware that the OP did not offer a return on the product, as a business seller i would have expected this. i personally would not purchase anything that coudl not be returned if there was a problem. so i agree with pearl123

To me the list of damaged to the PC is too extreme - its as the PC has fallen off a lorry onto a motorway!
If the buyer was capable of taking out interal pc parts -I'm sure he could have been capable of making the PC not work without giving it a damm good hiding!

In the end I can't tell how the damage really came about, but I suspect that if you had offered a return on your Pc you would have been down now only £30.00.

I'm a privite ebay seller and this has remindered me that I should offer returns whenever I can.

Do check look into distance selling rules. I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but everything could have avoided if you had followed your instinct regarding the packaging of the PC and ebay business rules.

As a seller or a buyer it's worth knowing where you stand with purchases online. Martin Lewis has a section on it as well.

If you think you have the financial means to sue ebay on tenuous grounds, then the £6-800 loss on the PC is insignificant.

Good luck with the choices you make.
