hi guys , ive had a Dell Inspiron for 13 months now and have loved it up untill weds night, i was on the net and doing a virus scan and malwarebytes scan when everything froze, tried shutting down but just got programme not responding couldnt get task manager to open so couldnt shut anything down so i pushed the button on the front and tried sorting the problem during the next few reboots all with the same problem =( i then got bored and did a full system reinstall as i dont keep anything on it and that worked fine, the pc was back to its normal self, all updates and scans were fine nothing freezing that is untill last night its all gone wrong again, as i was typing this it froze so im on the wifes laptop now... any help would be appreciated

The guys would suggest if you can boot it up again to do a hijackthis scan and post the log.
However since you have problems since a reinstall it could be hardware related.
My Inspiron would freeze occasionally when coming out of hibernation, problem cured by changing the hard drive.
Suggest you check all the internal connections are secure, maybe try listening to your HDD for any unusual noises. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
hi penrhyn..thx for reply, i think its hardware and am going to try your suggestions

Is it hibernating? If so, disable it in power settings.
Then restore from factory recovery partition (assuming you have no data on there), install avast, and avoid loading it up with too much extra software.!!

took the cover off, nothing obvious not even dust so put it back together and just plugged mouse and keyboard in, Booted up and did a virus scan and it managed 749 files on memory and froze0

You could paste your HJT log in here for a clue until someone more knowledgeable comes along, what antivirus are your running?

virgin media , i know prob not the best but its total so supposed to protect against virus, spyware and has firewall0

I have known it to cause at least one PC I looked at to freeze, why not remove it?
Maybe replace with Microsoft Security Essentials.
You can get rid of Microsoft Defender as well. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
lost patience with it.... its know in the pc repair shop0

if it was hardware, dell with a bit of persuasion would have fixed it for free, if it was software, restore to factory conditions (which takes 10 minutes) would fix it.!!
