Hello all,
I began university in september and are living in a 5 bedroom house with 4 other people. We are expecting a bill in the next week or so. Some of us are a bit short when it comes to finances, so we were wondering how long we would have normally/roughly to pay the bill. That way we have some idea how long we have to get some money together.
Many thanks,
Matt.

usually you get 14 days then a reminder letter giving another possible 14 days, but its best to pay asap if possible.0

Other option is to spread it out with a monthly plan - for example, £10 a month each (depends on what they offer). Will pay for old bill and bill coming up.0

Yeh, thats what we were originally going to do. When does everyone recieve their bill?
Thanks0 -
At least five university students and not one of them can read a meter and use a calculator. Who says entry standards are <bites tongue>
If you want to continue to pay using quarterly bills then it is simple enough (though you pay a premium for it.) You essentially have had four months to pay your bill. There is no need to ask for a formal monthly plan - simply pay an instalment every month using the counterfoil on the bill. Note that these instalments should be paid as you go along. Obviously, you will have to pay a bigger hit this time to pay the arrears.
Read the meter every month. Approximate how much what you have used will cost. Take a payment from each tenant. Pay a sum to your account. (You should, of course, all check the receipts to ensure the payer has not made a diversion to the pub on the way to the post office.)0 -
Its okay, we have worked out roughly what our bill should be. Thanks for the help everyone.0
