2008 Peugeot 207cc - Dead battery + maybe alternator probs!

Went out in my 207cc earlier and got stuck at the shops and had to call the AA out, the battery was completely dead.
He did some tests and the reading came out at around 150 instead of 650 or something like that, he jump started it so i can get home but dont know about what to do now

He said there may be low output from the alternator too, but would that cause the battery problems or other way round

I rang Peugeot, battery warranty is 2 yrs (Mine was 2 years old in August), but I bought the car from a big dealer in April this year, would that cover their warranty? and should these have been noticed during a service around 6 months ago?

Just seems strange for a 2 year old car to have these problems, its only done 17,000 miles too!

Thanks

should they have noticed a fault 6 months ago that has just surfaced?
does your battery light come on when the engine is running?
TBH your numbers dont really add up
had the AA man said it was pumping out 12v instead of 14V then it would have made sense
i cant tell you if your warranty covers it as you dont say what warrenty you have?
  • 2 years is a pathetically short time for a battery to last. It should be 5 years, minimum.

Having said that, are you doing mainly short trips lately? Short trip + fans on + lights on + screen heaters, etc = flat battery.
  • Battery went on my 206 a few weeks ago and had to get AA out to start it. They sent a contracted recovery firm to do it. They never tested it or anything.

Yesterday, went out to start the car in the evening and it wouldn't start again. Battery light on again. All this snow and cold has killed it I bet.

I suspect my car is still on the original battery which is good going for a 9 year old car.

The COLD is to blame. In the last week ave seen numerous people with dead cars in front of their houses (including Myself). As the poster before me said cold weather, short journeys, lights, heather, combined with older car (battery) which got loose and bad conections all around. All this kills your battery and you are stuck. Ways to prevent it is to: 1) Buy a new battery(cheapest i found to be in Euro car parts-around 25 pounds) : 2) carry booster pack (30 to 80 pounds) in your boot untill warmer weather. 3) Carry jump leads(8 to 20 pounds) in your boot and swwettalk a passing driver to give you a kick from his car(works best if you are 18 to 40 good looking female) 4) disconnect your battery, take it indoors and keep it near the fireplace(priceless). 5) buy a new car.

Batteries have 6 cells in them and it only takes a week one to drag the whole thing down in cold weather. Is it diesel or petrol?

If you have the ability you may find a nearly new and tested battery at the scrap yard. I get mine for £10 plus vat....

The AA man was probably quoting 150amps as opposed to the required cranking 650amps. Although 650amps plus is normally diesel country. Two years is probably the low end for a battery warranty, I would take it to a battery specialist get it load tested and your alternator tested at the same time.

Give it a good overnight charge and see if problem returns and/or get it retested.

Jump leads a re a good investment anyway, not only to get help but help others.
  • Its a petrol, I do a mix of short and long journeys really, I can get a new battery for £30 but was just waiting for a call back from the dealer, as not sure about the alternator or what if anything needs checking with that next

1st day we have had snow today too! not nice without my car haha

Its probably got the bigger battery so you can play with your roof:j £30 sounds a decent price from a dealer. It would be worth have your alternator checked.
